Easter was really a blessing this year. Most holidays that should mean something sneak up on me and I find myself trying to feel that a day's significance when ultimately I just feel all rushed and jumbled. This Easter felt different. Rachel and I were able to time our Bible readings to go right along with passion week. On Friday we went camping with my sisters and Dad... and we got to read the story of Christ's crucification around the camp fire. Being in nature, and intentionally preparing my heart made Easter day a true celebration!
We went to the traditional sunrise service on a beautiful hill behind our church under the oak tree pictured above. Even though it was cold it was beautiful. The wildflowers were out, and there were cows wandering around the neighboring hill watching us sing. It made me think- "the hills don't have to cry out because we are praising our Lord!" It was a simple service but I appreciate simple. The other service we attended at church later in the morning was more of an outreach, but it was simple and worshipful too, and exciting to have so many visitors. After going home for a couple hours we had Easter dinner and an egg hunt (which I was in charge of). My brother's girlfriend and her dad came to dinner along with my grandpa. It was really relaxed and fun! Here are many pictures of camping, Mission San Antonio (which we stopped at on the way back from camping) and Easter day. Hope the sheer volume doesn't overwhelm you!

Mission San Anotonio... is near where we camp. It is pretty rural still. I love imagining what it was like when the mission first started there. It is easy to envision because there is so little out there still. Missions are about the only old things we have in California. They are both beautiful and a little spooky at the same time.

Camping makes me tired!

i LOVE all these photos, brooke! you're not overwhelming us with the volume, trust me. ;o) the one of rachel you're using as a header for your blog is AMAZING!
i'm glad you feel like you were truly able to celebrate easter. i know what you mean about those important days sometimes sneaking up on you.
Love, LOVE all the photos! I told Matt as I was reading it that I really want to transport myself back to CA to spend the day with you guys! So fun to see pics of Autumn and Em too!
I was going to comment on Rachel's picture at the top of the page but it looks like it has been done ; ) Brookie, tell Rach that Wendy says she is an absolutely beautiful girl!!
PS Have you watered your poor dieing plant that is on your porch. I think deep down inside it still might be alive. Try giving it a good dose of H20.
Talk to you later ;0)
There can never be too many photos. Me likey likey!
Your photography is wonderful! The lighting on Rachel's face is perfection. Those hills make me miss Paso.
Great pics. I agree that top one of Rachel is really great. Happy Easter. One of these days I'm going to have to get up early enough for a sunrise service. That looks like it would be a really special time.
love the pics and tangible reminders that death has indeed ended :)
I agree! Easter this year was especially renewing. There's nothing like going from a PA winter to a CA spring that reminds one He is risen! I'm glad I was able to see you on the hill top for even that short time :)
